Islam and Prathiyagara
Islamic Prayer is a conversation between man and Almighty .
Only when the creation feels his presence with the CREATOR the prayer is Completed
Islamic prayer is combination of Asana Pranayama Dharana and Dhyana ultimately leading to Samathi.
Islamic prayer will be dealt with in a few succeeding parts
Now we will proceed with I
slam and Prathiyagara
(. Controlling of Senses )
Islam prescribes some compulsory duties like Prayer Fasting compulsory Charity called Zakka and Haj Pilgrimage on every true muslim subject to certain conditions .
All the above are very good Prathiyagara practices.
Prayer
Eyes and Ears are kept open.
But one pne in prayer should concentrate only on the Almighty and feel like conversing with HIM
Then only Prayer attains complete form
Fasting
One may be hungry and thirsty . Variety of tasty foods and drinks are at his reach.
But he cannot eat or drink even water.
Despite having inclination he cannot approach his life partner
Above all one should avoid anger.falsehood and undesirable thoughts like envy during fasting
Zakka
islam imposes a compulsory charity of 2.5% on wealth left over after meeting all his needs .
It may look very simple but it requires a firm mindset dedicated to the Almighty to drive away selfishness.
__I have toiled and earned why should I share with others __
Another form of Charity is sadakka which is not compulsory.
It assumes more significance as a socio economic measure since it is expected that one should spend whatever is left after providing for his needs as charity
Haj Pilgrimage
A special dress called Ihram is prescribed for men in Haj
Made of two pieces of unstitched cloths it very much resembles dress worn to corpse.
One's ego.arrpgance ,pride and all disappear once he wears this Ihram dress. and he is pushed to the mentality of expecting his last days.
One has to board international flight with such a simple dress and rubber slippers like a begger wandering in search of mercy and grace of Almighty
