MEMOIRS of NELLAI 2 Schaffter High School

Schaffter High School

Tirunelveli Revisit had a good beginning in CB Tirunelveli

Now I am a teenage boy with white shirt tucked in blue half pants.

Standing at the entrance of Schaffter High School I can clearly visualize my HM Mr. J. Arthur Aseervatham – a tall man – with a long stick in his hand, and three PT masters also with sticks roaming in the verandah

Perhaps because of this visualization I did not feel like entering the school.

Here I had my 9th and 10th Standard Education and a few months of 11th standard ( 11 years School)   55 years back

Perhaps this is the only school/ college in my curriculum where wearing of uniform was compulsory

At the very initial stage of my school life , I was sent out of prayer session for not wearing uniform

Apart from the HM other teachers I remember are
MS Jesumani Arul Devadass ,  Thamban ,  Christudass ,  Arunachalam , Chandra , Joel  Muthuraj

The There 3 PT masters – one tall one short and one of medium height were known more by their nicknames

Mode of transport from home to school was environment friendly one without fuel expense – simply walking

To cut short the distance I used to go through Nellaiappar Temple
Necessarily I had to remove my chappals and keep them in my school bag,

I used to walk very fast.

My English teacher  compared  my walking with gait of British People

A few students’ name I remember
Samudram,  Kutttalingam ,  Syed   Sudalai   Esakki Muthu  Rajkumar

Here the students had a few habits which looked strange to me

Wearing of Vests (Baniyans) was compulsory for PT classes. Most of the students will wear it only for PT class and then ceremoniously remove it and keep it in their bags.

Lending and borrowing of baniyans was also common

Another habit was meticulously counting of books and notes after each class

Very few students wore chappals

Tirunelveli Tamil also sounded strange to me.

In tenth standard there was an option of choosing general or composite mathematics
I was fairly good at general mathematics. But somehow I went to composite mathematics

Till date I do not know why

Our class was taken to Krishnapuram   a nearby village on excursion . There is one ancient temple with fine stone sculptures.

I still remember 2 sculptures of woman
In one each hair in the head was clearly visible .
In another, if a small stick is inserted into the nostril it came through the other  nostril .

My 11th standard was in Pollachi due to fathers transfer

Let us meet in Memoirs of Nellai 3 in a few days
