Tirunelveli Municipal Office

Adjacent to Schaffter School is Tirunelveli Municipal office.

My father K.Peer Mohamed was Municipal Commissioner for two different terms

Mr Suryanaraynan and Mr Majeed were chairmen of Council.

When council stood suspended for my father was designated as special officer

One Mr Suryanrarayanan was Health Officer.

Other staff I remember are

MS Padmanabhan Chari Ibrahim Subbiah Veesabaghu Kuppusamy Muthusamy

Dr Kabeer Dr. Valli and Dr Muthiah were in charge Municipal Dispensaries

Mr Arunachala Mudaliar, HM Municipal High School was a close friend of my father

I used to take my lunch in Commissioners Room. My school – Schafffter- was just adjacent to Municipal office

A good number of students of the school would take lunch in the garden in the office

Municipal administration now and then sent letters to the school objecting to this practice

A small dilapidated building in Kurukkuthurai near water works was rebuilt as Commissioner’s quarters during my father’s period

Only a man with great will power could have moved to such a quarters – a lonely house on way to cremation ground - surroundings full of snakes
