METONYMY

Last week we saw  about . the term  SILVER SCREEN  which
In  course of time was used to
refer cinema in general
There is a specific  word to refer  such terms in which a word or phrase is moving beyond the literal meaning into  metaphorical meaning
What is that ?
ANS

metonymy

/mɪˈtɒnɪmi/

Metonymy is a figure of speech that replaces the name of a thing with the name of something else with which it is closely associated.
It can be well understood by the famous saying
Pen is mightier than sword
Here pen stands for written word
Sword stands for military aggression
It can be compared to ஆகுபெயர் in Tamil
Hope it is clear

only one  correct answer received
from Mr F. Parvez Ahmed
Congrats to my grandson
